Technical Lead - Construction Programme

Overview of Role

BRE is proud to be part of a major Research and Development programme in the construction sector, together with a consortium of partners and stakeholders focusing on offsite construction and digital technologies and processes, known as the Transforming Construction Alliance.

A key element of this brand new Technical Lead role will be to effectively manage key technical and engineering teams through all stages of the programme to ensure planned outcomes are achieved. You will facilitate the delivery of technical outcomes across the programme, working with several technical and engineering partners who are distributed across the UK, to align specification, delivery and deployment.

BRE is a world leading, multi-disciplinary, building science centre with a mission to improve buildings and infrastructure, through research and knowledge generation.

Role Profile

The role of the Technical Lead will be to:

  • Oversee the specification of technical scope across the programme
  • Oversee technical delivery through project phases and gate reviews
  • Work closely with the BRE Director, Programme Technical Leads and Programme Manager
  • Coordinate the work of the Technical Leads to ensure clarity of requirements,
  • Monitor technical progress and resolve issues
  • Validate project output in line with programme requirement
  • Attend regular and/or ad hoc technical meetings with partners in Coventry, Cambridge and London
  • Assess technical proposals across the programme from subcontractors, suppliers and/or delivery partners
  • Line and matrix manage technical teams

 

Skills and Experience

The candidate should have:

  • Previous experience of technical accountability in the construction projects, innovation and/or research, such as projects and/or experience of decision making in relation to the use of MMC techniques and practicalities of site delivery
  • Experience specifying technical scope of works
  • A working knowledge of BIM, Building Regs and other notable standards such as BREEAM
  • A civil or structural engineering degree, preferably chartered level
  • A membership to a professional engineering body
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to a wide range of audiences
  • Proven ability to work on complex programmes whilst maintaining focus on delivery
  • A high level of insight of offsite, advanced manufacturing and MMC
  • Experience preparing technical reports and other collateral 

 

Location of Role

You will be based in BRE in Watford however ad hoc travel will be required in the south of England or Midlands
