Could you develop sonar, radar and search systems to keep our city safe?

Did you know that there’s a raft of dedicated professionals protecting London behind the scenes? They include engineers and scientists who develop innovative technology to combat crime and terrorism. As a Technical Support Engineer within our Protective Security and Operations Command, you’ll create specialist search tech for colleagues in Counter Terrorism.

In this vital part of the Met, we develop capabilities such as Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear detection systems. Your task will be to create metal detection, x-ray imaging, side-scan sonar, ground penetrating radar, thermal imaging and other solutions, getting to grips with the technology quickly in case you need to deploy equipment.

To join us, you’ll need a proven technical background in Electronics or an Electro/Mechanical discipline. You should also have a good grasp of chemistry, physics, telecommunications and radio frequency, as well as a passion for tech and its applications. Your knowledge will be supported by at least four GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths. A-levels (or equivalent) would be even better. While this expertise is essential, you’ll also need to be practical, organised and able to think on your feet.

To deliver the very best solutions, it’s vital that you work together with officers and fellow Engineers. With teamwork, initiative and your specialist knowledge, you’ll create technology that can play a critical role in keeping our city safe.

To apply, please visit our website to download a role specific information pack. Applications will be via a detailed CV, Personal Statement and online application form.

Completed applications must be returned by Sunday the 3rd of March 2019 at 23:55pm.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.

Company

London covers 620 square miles and is home to millions of people speaking over 300 different languages. In this most vibrant and complex of cities, this presents an ever-evolving challenge for the Met when fighting to reduce crime - and the fear of crime.

Forging close relationships, building trust and understanding the issues within London’s different communities all form part of the fundamental platform on which effective, credible policing is built.

As a result, we must continue to recruit the brightest and the best people from every background and use the full spectrum of their skills, knowledge and experience to make London safer for everybody.
