The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Electronic Engineering to lead our Weapon System Operations Equipment Team.  This multi-skilled team is responsible for the development and delivery of Naval, Land and, in the future, Air Firing Units across the full range of UK and UK/France shared projects with a total value of tens of million pounds.
 
The Role
Reporting to the UK Head of Electronic Engineering, the role is accountable for:
  • The Product and project delivery for Naval, Land and in the future Air firing units through a co-located team of approximately 30 engineers encompassing  a full range of engineering disciplines
  • Implementing the complete equipment life cycle to deliver design solutions to time, cost, performance and quality with a strong focus on taking the benefit of modularity and re-use.
  • Managing the future technology road map and its embodiment points for Commercial Of The Shelf technologies
  • Engaging with MBDA France on Weapon System matters plus direct involvement with suppliers and partners across Europe.
  • In collaboration with the wider organisation, develop working practices and tools and capabilities to ensure that our products are competitive in the market place.
  • Engaging with the Electronic Engineering UK Management team to participate in strategic actions across Electronic Engineering and the wider Operations Directorate
The role will require travel within the UK and across Europe.

What are we looking for?
Suitable candidates for this role are likely to have many of the following skills and experiences:
  • Significant/demonstrable experience in managing multi-disciplined engineering teams across the full product life cycle, delivering major equipment to the value of many tens of million pounds
  • Experience in establishing and managing efficient and motivated teams with clear accountabilities and objectives within an evolving environment
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills enabling efficient operation across a wide range of stakeholders (projects, functions, customers, partners and suppliers)
  • Experience of developing and managing strategic relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders
  • Experience of complex electronic development and transition to manufacture.
  • Strong engineering skills capable of addressing all aspects of the product lifecycle
  • Strong leadership and man management skills
  • Ability to challenge the “normal” way of doing things in order to deliver challenging requirements
  • Forward thinking from a technology and business perspective
  • Experience of collaboration with international teams.
