Career opportunities with UTC Aerospace Systems – Sensors and Integrated Systems

Work with the market leaders in inertial technology

The UTC Aerospace Systems’ SIS business, based in Plymouth, Devon, traces its heritage back over a century to Sperry Gyro, early innovators in gyroscope technology. Inertial technology is still the business’s focus and it continues to innovate in this area with great success. The operation specialises in tiny, lightweight Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) products. It supplied the world’s first MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU) into military service and has delivered the only silicon MEMS IMU proven to survive gun shock of over 20,000g - critical to the performance of many of today’s precision guided munitions. Currently over 130,000 of these rugged miniature devices have been delivered to more than 60 customers worldwide. They are used in missile and weapon navigation and in the stabilisation and navigation of many types of platform. Today, the company is developing a new generation of potentially market-disrupting inertial sensing devices that will redefine what is possible in platform control, whether on land, in the air or at sea.

The business is also the home of TERPROM® the world's most advanced precision ground collision avoidance system, proven to save aircrew lives. It is in service on over 5000 aircraft in 14 countries, including all UK RAF front line fast jets. It provides ground collision avoidance, terrain referenced navigation and a range of other warning and situational awareness cues, reducing pilots’ workload and keeping them safe - all without dependency on GPS. The business’s expert team also provides individual support for a range of legacy (and even historic) avionics equipment, offering an efficient and tailored service to a range of customers worldwide.
