Adam Griffiths, an active member of the IET and Director of Programmes and Engineering at Elbit Systems UK, took some time to talk to us about his role at Elbit Systems UK, his engineering past and why you should consider Elbit Systems UK for your next engineering role.
Where did your passion for engineering stem from?
I have to say that I found my original inspiration for engineering from my dad. He was an aircraft technician in the RAF and was always looking for something new to work on. From a young age, I was taught how to wire up electrical systems, how to drive and handle farm machinery and quite literally fix anything that was broken. Engineering became who I was as a person, it wasn’t typically something I chose to be, but something that was always around me. An engineer is simply, who I am.
What is your job title at Elbit Systems UK and what does that entail?
I am the Director of Programmes and Engineering at Elbit Systems UK and that means I am responsible for the technology and innovation strategy, to ensure that all our projects and programmes are delivered successfully. Additionally, I provide design authority assurance across all our projects and programmes to ensure the products we create are safe and suitable for service, whilst meeting our customers standards and requirements.
Why did you choose to take that role with Elbit Systems UK?
From the beginning of my recruitment journey with Elbit Systems UK, I genuinely felt that they would offer something different, they would work hard to ensure their customers got what they wanted, and they genuinely cared about their employees. I wanted to work somewhere that had values for both customers and employees and I found that in this company.
Before working with Elbit Systems UK, I had worked in the defence and aerospace sectors for some time and began to realise that the industry was missing something. Elbit Systems UK provided me with the opportunity to genuinely shape a business from the ground up and that in itself offered me a unique proposition.
How did you apply for your current role?
After recently completing my master’s degree in business administration, I was looking for my next role that would help me develop and progress my career and that is when Elbit Systems UK reached out to me.
The timing was everything and they gave me a unique opportunity to step up and work in a leadership position within the business. I jumped at the opportunity and haven’t once looked back.
