For members of the IET Advantage Schemes we are here to help you at each step of your engineering journey and sometimes, at the beginning is when things can feel the most difficult. Whether you are in your final year of studying your engineering course or you have already graduated and are looking for support, the IET is here to help you every step of the way. We provide you with the support you may need to access the important tools and training that will complement your hands-on experience.

We offer a three-tiered fee programme (£20, £60 and £90), giving you room to grow and progress in your career without having to sweat the small stuff.

So, what do we have to offer?

Graduate Advantage

The Graduate Advantage is available for both students in their final year of education and recent graduates. As a Graduate Advantage member of the IET, you will get a year of curated content engineered to showcase what you’ve achieved so far, it can raise your professional profile and give you a head start in your engineering career.

If you are already a student member of the IET, you’ll be automatically enrolled on this advantage scheme nine months before you course ends. After your student membership ends, you will be offered the next year of membership for only £20. If you’re not already a member, then you can still sign up for £20!

The Graduate advantage scheme is offered to students and recent graduates across the globe, so you shouldn’t’ miss out just because you don’t currently live and study in the UK. This part of the advantage scheme is here to give you the help you need to get into the world of work. We have dedicated people ready to help give you advice on what to do next, you don’t have to feel alone when you leave education. The IET will help by providing study tips, essential reading and resources, as well as advice on how to find your first engineering role outside of education.

Career Advantage

The second step in our advantage scheme is career advantage. This is for engineers that have graduated between one to four years ago and is a three-year programme to help you on your career path. This plan is great if you’re working towards a professional registration status, we will help create a plan with you and keep you up to date with industry knowledge. You will be provided with the tools you need to become more established in the world of work, we want to help you boost your knowledge and experience.

When you sign up in your first year after graduation, this three-year package will only cost you £60. If you are thinking about signing up but you graduated within the last three years, you’ll get 2 years at £60 per year and if you join in your fourth year after graduating, you’ll get one year for the £60 fee, but with all of the benefits!

After you complete Career Advantage, you’re on the final stretch. If you’re MIET status, you’ll auto-enrol on Professional Advantage – a two-year course specifically developed to get you to professional registration.

Professional Advantage

If you’re studying part-time and you graduated from your engineering course within the last five to six years, you can sign up for Professional Advantage. If you graduated in the last three to four years, you’ll be better suited to Career Advantage. Each step in the advantage scheme is tailored to where you are in your career and we develop a plan suited to only you. We work to tailor everything to your needs and get you on the path that you think is best suited to you.

Professional Advantage is targeted to those working at MIET level, so if you are not quite there yet, you can join the career advantage scheme, or you can contact the IET for further advice. This part of the advantage scheme is all about taking you and your work experience to the next level and you will be given resources to help you prepare for professional registration.

The IET want you to make the most of the resources we provide, and the three-step advantage scheme can help you do exactly that.
