Life in Presales Systems Engineering at Dell Technologies

I am a Presales Systems Engineer working at Dell Technologies. I joined the company just under 3 years ago as part of GSAP (Global Services Associate Program) and qualified as a full Presales Systems Engineer in November last year. Having come from an Engineering degree and background, the GSAP program was a great introduction into the technology industry and to my current Presales role.

My job within Dell Technologies is to bridge the gap between technology and the business outcomes that our customers are hoping to achieve. We need to understand our customer's industry and their current IT challenges, and then work on providing holistic solutions to overcome these.

This means that my 'typical day' can vary greatly, with a large part of my time being client facing and spent on site, another portion working internally to design technically sound solutions which meet these customer's requirements. I have the opportunity as part of my day to day activity to be creative and to solve problems, all with the support of a great internal team.

Technology is constantly changing which means there is always something new to learn. This is something I really value about the role I have today, we are always having new conversations and finding new ways that technology can enable our customers. Additionally, at Dell Technologies we are always actively encouraged to continue to learn and embark on new education tracks throughout new and emerging technologies. We are given the time and flexibility we need to become specialists in our selected fields, and the opportunity to share this with the presales community on our Thursday 'Tech Talks'.

In addition to the Presales Systems Engineer role, I think that it's important for us to give back to our communities and to use our size for good. Since joining the company, I have had the opportunity to take part in the MillionMakers scheme, which is just one part of Dell Technologies' relationship with The Prince's Trust Charity. The aim of this is to raise as much money in a 6-month period as possible, which is then used to help people from the ages of 11-30 to get into education, apprenticeships or just to provide much needed support. More recently I have become a STEM Ambassador, with the aim to go into schools and inspire young people with the possibilities of science and technology, and to continue their education in these areas. This is all part of the Dell Technologies' 'Legacy for good', which covers a wide range of initiatives from helping the community to our Oceans plastic scheme, where discarded plastic is collected and recycled into packaging!

Presales is a fulfilling role in itself, but with the support and opportunities provided by the company it makes Dell Technologies a particularly rewarding place to work.
