Why Now Is The Right Time to Look For a Job
Have you enjoyed your job recently or is the idea of going back into your workplace the worst thing you could possibly think of? Many of us have had a very long time to think about our jobs and if they are actually what we really, truly want to be doing. A lot of people have had to deal with what they think of as wasted time, so why waste anymore being in a job that doesn’t satisfy you? Now is as good as anytime to start looking for your new engineering job and here’s why!
You’re dreading the idea of going back into work
Are you dreading going back to work because you prefer working at home, or you don’t want to return back to your normal job? Whether that be because of the role itself, the place you work or the people you work with, you deserve better. There is nothing worse than waking up on a Monday morning (or any morning for that matter) and instantly hating the idea of getting up to do your job. It’s okay to feel like this sometimes, but all the time, is a massive red flag that you should address sooner than later. You don’t need a sign to tell you to get a new job, your happiness is important and if you don’t feel happy, do something about it. It’s as simple as that.
You want to progress in your career
Some jobs aren’t the problem, you may love your job but feel like you’re ready for a change or the next step in your career. Career progression can be very important for some people and if you feel like there’s nothing left for you to learn and your company isn’t hiring or looking to promote, it might be a good time to step outside of your comfort zone and go get the job you want.
Understanding what you want in a new job can be difficult to begin with but take the time to analyse what skills you have and what you need to get you to the next step. Track your development and use this in your interviews. Sometimes, we have to move on in order to grow.
There are jobs out there right now!
Companies are hiring! The job market is booming and there are plenty of roles out there for you to try and grab. Data from CV-library (2021) shows that there has been a 103% rise in job vacancies since the pandemic began. However, you are not the only one looking for a new job and considering there were a lot of redundancies made over the last year, there will be more competition than usual. – even in our sector.
However, if you are prepared, work hard and ensure that you understand why you are looking for a new role, you’ll get the job you’re meant to have. There is always competition but now there are just more roles to chose from! So do your research and find the right one for you. You don’t want to waste any more time, do you?
Other parts of your life are changing
You might be thinking about moving home, starting a family soon or simply think you have outgrown your job. Either way, your job is a part of your life, not the centre of it. Yes, work is important and to some people their career can be everything, but you work to live not live to work. If there are things that are changing for you and your role cannot keep up, don’t let it hold you back.
You can find a new role in a different location, find one that has a better flexible working policy or even try a new sector. There is always something out there for you, so don’t leave other life choices for another day, fit your job around your life and you could see amazing results.
Hiring will start up again after summer
I hate to say it, but summer is coming to an end. Which means, people are coming back from their holiday’s and can start to interview again. Usually, once the summer starts, hiring slows down. This is due to the fact that there are less people in the workplace or working, therefore less people to work on the hiring process. It can be useless to start a process and then have to take a break half-way through, so a lot of companies just slow down over the summer period. So, now is the perfect time for you to get back into it and start your work to finding the right job.
There might never be a right time
We all have priorities and sometimes, these can’t be overlooked. So, there may never seem to be a right time to job search. You just need to do what is right for you. If you want to feel happier at work and think this will help, go for it. If you want career progression, start your research.
Job seeking is something you can come back to if something else comes up. What I do know, is there are jobs out there right now that are perfect for you and your skillset. You just have to look for them and give yourself the opportunity.
