1. Use your skills and experience 

Being a teacher means being able to use your engineering skills, and share your knowledge, expertise and passion for your subject. 

Think about your existing skills, such as communication, organisation, leadership and management skills, creativity, innovation and the ability to work under pressure that are all transferable to the classroom and highly valued by the teaching profession.

Teaching allows you to contribute to your community in a meaningful way and is one of the most direct ways to make an impact. 

As a teacher, you’ll have an important part to play in shaping the next generation. You’ll have the opportunity to be a role model, developing your students’ talents, maximising their potential and enabling them to achieve things they never thought they could.

4. Financial support while you train

Financial support to train as a teacher is available for STEM related subjects, including Maths and Physics of up to £29,000 for postgraduate training.

There are three types of funding available for teacher training - depending on your circumstances, you could receive all three: 

• Tax-free bursary or scholarship
• Tuition fee loan and maintenance loan
• Extra financial support if you're a parent, have an adult dependant or a disability
