Get into Teaching

There aren’t many jobs where you go home each day knowing you have made a real difference to a child’s life. Teachers are encouraged to think of creative ways to engage their students and you’ll be able to use your experience to help bring your subject to life.

The skills and experiences you’ve gained during your time as an engineer are invaluable. You could have the potential to become an outstanding teacher.

Why you should consider teaching and some information about where to start.

1. Use your skills and experience

Being a teacher means being able to use your engineering skills, and share your knowledge, expertise and passion for your subject.

Think about your existing skills, such as communication, organisation, leadership and management skills, creativity, innovation and the ability to work under pressure that are all transferable to the classroom and highly valued by the teaching profession.

2. Make a difference and give back to your community

Teaching allows you to contribute to your community in a meaningful way and is one of the most direct ways to make an impact.

As a teacher, you’ll have an important part to play in shaping the next generation. You’ll have the opportunity to be a role model, developing your students’ talents, maximising their potential and enabling them to achieve things they never thought they could.

3. Help and support to apply

If you want to become a teacher in England, a Teacher Training Adviser can guide you through the process with free one-to-one support.
