Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical

Would you like the chance to work in a nuclear environment on some of the most advanced nuclear systems in the UK? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical at our site in Barrow-in-Furness

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical, you will be responsible for the commissioning and testing of all reactor and propulsion systems across all submarine platforms for current and future platforms; systems will include any electrical orientated systems associated with the nuclear reactor. You will be interacting with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop professionally within BAE Systems.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical will involve:

Working through the test specifications and forms to ensure compliance with each aspect of the test procedure to ensure fit for purpose

Being responsible for the commissioning, trials, operation & setting to work of systems and equipment as appropriate

Providing a support service to boat builds, MoD and commercial customers as appropriate

Being responsible for research and compilation of appropriate documentation around reactor systems

Representing the company on contractor's sea trials and other outworking requirements including guarantee periods as applicable

Ensuring safe and efficient working practices at all times; including taking indirect responsibility for less senior member of the team around you

Controlling of sub- contractors which could involve input into risk assessments, method statements, security arrangements and monitoring of work

Keeping full and accurate records of work activities carried out by using company systems

Your skills and qualifications:


Experience of test and commissioning with Electrical systems

HNC/HND in an Electrical discipline or equivalent

Experience of the setting to work of Electrical systems


Demonstrable experience of submarine engineering; ideally from a fit, re-fit, commissioning, or decommissioning standpoint

Knowledge of authorised documentation, or test standards

Experience of nuclear reactor systems engineering
