What’s the opportunity?
This role is to work on a new seeker product with a fast paced programme within a dynamic team to manage the seeker development activities to ensure that the seeker hardware is fit for purpose in terms of build, test and support testing against requirements.
What will you be doing?
  • Establish the hardware design definition and configuration required for intended use during development including managing the design baselines.
  • Run the continual UPC reviews including the management of design/process changes to improve UPC.
  • Review the design with manufacturing as development seekers are built and manage the change process including temporary working processes to manage the build.
  • Manage the non-conformances identified during development build and seek appropriate approvals from the CDE using concessions and design updates.
  • Support the CDE in the management of risk mitigation activities including managing tasks and also reviewing and updating the risk register.
  • Support the CDE in work package management of the seeker hardware development including seeking updates from external functions that are managed by the CDE.
  • Work with the design team to verify that the performance of supplied parts is suitable against requirements including reviewing test documentation and test results.
  • Assess the design shortfalls and encourage design changes to trade performance between sub-units.
  • Assess design requirements against test data and verify that the seeker system performance is met.

Seeker Division within MBDA are responsible for undertaking the systems design, performance evaluation, integration, design verification and certification of RF seekers and multi-mode seekers. These activities provide a consistent systems engineering approach to all the stages of seeker development from concept to in service support.
The Hardware Development Manager is a key interface to the design teams, systems team, trials team, manufacturing and the other support departments. They also interface with internal and external customers and suppliers on technical issues.
The team have a proven track record in understanding and developing RF/microwave and multimode seekers to meet demanding customer needs and constantly develop new technologies aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our products.
 
Who and what we are looking for from you?
Ideally degree qualified or equivalent with the following skills and experience:-
 
Technical Skills and Experience
  • Experience of managing products through development programmes
  • Appreciation of RF/microwave, electronic and mechanical systems in a related industry
  • Appreciation of RF/microwave, electronic and mechanical design methods and tools
  • Familiarity with radar and control systems and digital signal processing an advantage
  • Experience of working with other teams including systems and manufacturing
  • Ability to produce high quality written reports and presentations to internal and external customers
Other Skills and Experience
  • Good appreciation of commercial and financial constraints in engineering development
  • Consistent ability to deliver required output within agreed timescales
  • Willingness to learn about projects, tools & methods of design and manufacture
  • Demonstrate persistence to get the job done and gain assistance when required
  • Ability to build good working relationships with team members and external departments, suppliers and customers, acting as a team leader when required
  • Familiarity with project control and reporting an advantage
