The Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced HR Advisor on a Fixed Term basis to join our multi-national defence systems business. You will provide HR Client Facing support to the Operations UK business, in particular the Manufacturing UK customer base.
The role is based in Bolton and you will have the opportunity to attend a thorough induction at our Stevenage site for a period upon joining.
This is an exciting time to join the team as the Bolton site has recently embarked upon a major move to a brand new manufacturing facility.
The Role: a generalist in Human Resources
  • Responsible for people management activities within the relevant business area e.g.  performance assessment, annual salary review/bonus processes, promotions, resourcing, talent management disciplinary’s  etc.
  • Work closely with the business client acting as a reference point for HR issues providing advice and solutions to problems
  • Coach, advise and influence the relevant business area to ensure compliance with European  and national law as well as MBDA policies and procedures
  • Developing strong, effective working relationships across the customer base, Trade Unions, Operations HR team and wider UK HR teams
  • Producing reports or analyses which may involve manipulating statistical data and using mathematical calculations, checking own work for completeness and accuracy
  • Contribute to new HR policy and process requirements as required
Strategic business partner:
  • Work with managers to identify opportunities where HR can add value and help define people strategies which take into account any implications for the Operations Directorate, ensuring that it is in line with MBDA and the wider HR strategy
  • Ensure key people management processes are deployed to the customer area within time, budget and ensuring quality is applied
  • Support the customer area in the development of tailored resourcing strategies ensuring the recruitment of the correct skills within headcount budgets
  • Contribute to wider ad hoc HR improvement objectives
Change Agent:
  • To strike a balance in the relevant business area between short, mid and long-term people management decisions ensuring that all needs are met in the most effective manner
  • Driving and facilitating change and improvement within the business by challenging current management viewpoints
  • Enabling a positive approach to change with all key stakeholders whilst acting as a role model for change
  • Coach, influence and advise the relevant business area to ensure effective people management

What are we looking for?
  • You will ideally be educated to degree level and preferably with, or working towards, a CIPD or other relevant qualification
  • Demonstrable experience in providing HR Advisory support to a multi-skilled client base
  • Ability to travel in the UK
  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with managers and build excellent relationships with key stakeholders and HR colleagues
  • To succeed in this role you need to be able to manage your own workload, prioritise effectively  and multi-task whilst under pressure to deliver
  • Preferably some Trade Union experience or experience within a unionised environment
  • Thorough and well organised with the ability to think and plan ahead
  • The ability to work autonomously and also to be able to contribute to the wider success of the HR team
  • You will be resilient and persistent, with the initiative and real drive to achieve results
  • Excellent and up to date knowledge of Employment law and best practice
  • Someone who can interpret relevant legislation, internal procedures and HR policy appropriately
  • Previous experience of supporting a site relocation would be beneficial
  • Excellent PC skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP (preferred)
