The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Materials Engineering Laboratory Technician to work in the brand new, progressive, Materials laboratory at MBDA Bolton carrying out day to day activities to support the Manufacturing Function.
The Role
  • The Materials and Processes Laboratory Technician will be responsible for carrying out daily Quality Control checks for incoming Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) from suppliers, re-life assessment of stored components and resolution of arising manufacturing issues.
  • The role will include:
    • Booking in, recording and monitoring of S103 (printed circuit boards and flexi-boards) incoming receipt inspection tasks.
    • Performing visual inspection of incoming PCB’s to IPC and MBDA requirements.
    • Performing micro-section checks of PCBs to IPC and MBDA requirements.
    • Operating XRF analysis equipment.
    • Carrying out a variety of inspection tasks to assess the life extension of stored components
    • Liaison with Manufacturing Engineers to support issue resolution.
    • Reporting assessment results and maintaining records of checks undertaken.
    • Maintaining the highest level of workmanship standards for product quality
    • Maintaining, and advising on, a safe working environment.
  • The equipment and resources available in the Materials and Processes Laboratory are continuously reviewed to meet current and future requirements of the business. The Materials and Processes Laboratory Technician will play an active role in this process to ensure that the service provided to the business is the best that it can be.

What are we looking for?
  • Ideally secondary level of education with a number of GCSE or equivalent passes, plus formal training leading to a vocational qualification (ONC, City & Guilds, BTEC) in a relevant subject. 
Specific Experience/Attributes:
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing/laboratory environment using microscopes, analytical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Verbal and written communication skills including technical report writing.
  • IT skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, use of Access databases)
Desirable Experience
  • Determination and persistence to deliver results despite obstacles and setbacks.
  • Ability to communicate both within the working group and at various levels of the organisation and supply chain.
  • Ability to understand and work to Company Processes and Procedures.
  • Ability to recognise and understand customer requirements, and respond to them.
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work within, and contribute to, a team of highly motivated engineers.
  • Ability to produce high quality analysis in a production environment.
  • Working in a laboratory environment assessing the quality of printed circuit boards/flexi boards.
