Electronic Systems Engineer
Would you like to become a domain specialist within submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for an Electronic Systems Engineer at our site in Frimley.
As an Electronic Systems Engineer, you will be working within the Under Water Systems (UWS) team, which is responsible for the design, specification and development of sonar systems such as Towed Array, Flank Array sonar, and miscellaneous sonar. More specifically, you will be responsible for the miscellaneous sonar systems, which are smaller systems such as environmental sonars, range tracking equipment, hydro sounder, and underwater telephones etc. Working with a Lead Engineer, you will have the chance to take ownership of these systems and lead in their delivery.
This role will provide you with a very diverse range of work, working across all submarine programmes, on complex systems. This role will also provide you with the opportunity to develop into a Lead role.
Your main responsibilities as an Electronic Systems Engineer will involve:
Supporting the design, development, and delivery of miscellaneous sonar systems for the UK's submarine programmes
Interfacing with subcontractors on a daily basis, ensuring delivery of required systems and designs
Attending regular project meetings including design reviews and change reviews
Visiting supplier and subcontractor sites and carrying out acceptance testing
Assessing technical data and articulating solutions to engineering issues and problems
Supporting additional acceptance activities such as sea trials where possible
Deputising for Lead Engineer where necessary
Managing system documentation and participating in life cycle management reviews
Your skills and qualifications as an Electronic Systems Engineer:
Engineering qualification such as HNC (or equivalent)
Experience in electronics engineering
Knowledge of, and some experience with, the systems engineering life cycle (including requirements, verification, and acceptance)
Good level of IT literacy and report-writing skills
Previous sonar experience or knowledge of other aspects of the combat system

Maritime Submarines - Combat Systems
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.
We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
