Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design Authority)
Would you like to play a safety critical role working with the Nuclear Facility Design Authority (NFDA) for site facilities/systems that support various submarine projects? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design), you will be producing, managing and developing nuclear facilities safety documentation to demonstrate justification of facilities, such as industrial buildings, clean rooms, cranes and dock structures /systems.
This role will offer good exposure to a variety of challenging projects across the programme and interaction with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design Authority) will involve:
Producing nuclear facilities safety documentation to demonstrate justification of facilities
Producing Scope of Works for design consultants and other relevant design documentation and producing and managing requirements capture documentation
Producing reports relating to the assessment of structural or mechanical adequacy
Supporting in the management of Consultant Engineers employed in the design of the new facilities, including reviewing and reporting on design deliverables
Supporting in the management of the NFDA workload and junior staff members, as required
Managing key stakeholders throughout projects, including through requirements capture stages
Providing technical and engineering advice and articulating and presenting technical arguments clearly, logically and simply
Your skills and qualifications:
Degree Qualified (Engineering or Science) or HNC/HND with equivalent experience
Experience of facilities/system design within a Mechanical or Structural discipline
Demonstrated experience in safety justification /safety document production
Strong IT Skills including MS Project, word, excel
Stakeholder management experience
Experience in the design substantiation of nuclear related facilities
Reliability qualification or knowledge
Chartered Engineer status or membership of professional engineering body

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
