Principal Engineer - In-Service Engineer
Would you like the exciting opportunity to provide real-time engineering support to in-service submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - In-Service Support Engineer working at our Customer's site in Bristol.
As a Principal Engineer working within the Submarine Design Services (SDS) organisation , you will be responsible for supporting the MOD with engineering queries on the Astute class submarine. . You will be working in a small team with a specific focus on providing mechanical ship systems design and maintenance information.
This role will provide you with excellent insight to this area of the business along with career progression and fully supported development.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer will involve:
Providing technical support for in-service Astute class submarines, particularly related to mechanical ship systems such as high pressure air, trim & ballast and hydraulic systems.
Being fully embedded within the MoD customer organisation to provide day to day technical support
Investigating complex engineering queries raised by the Astute Design Authority and other MoD stakeholders, to resolve issues such as operational defects
Liaising with internal stakeholders including the shipbuilding teams and design teams to feedback in-service issues, , via the Continuous Improvement process
Using Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) and other toolsets to seek resolutions to engineering issues, and proposing additions or amendments to these toolsets based on experience with the end user
Providing out-of-hours support ( 24/7 call out capability) as a Duty Engineer. This is usually rostered one week in six.
Your skills and qualifications:
Working knowledge of submarine mechanical ship systems (such as high pressure air, trim & ballast, and hydraulics)
Experience of writing technical reports
Experience of MoD processes and procedures either from delivery or end-user perspective
Submarines operational experience
Previous experience of MoD submarine in-service support structures
BEng/ MEng level qualification (or equivalent)
Chartered Status or working towards

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
