Principal Engineer - Product Safety

Would you like to work within a varied role, supporting the product safety of Combat Systems for in-service Royal Navy vessels? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Product Safety, at our Broad Oak site.

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for product safety and environmental management within specified projects for Naval Combat Systems. You will be providing both physical and functional safety expertise, as well as being the technical point of contact for the customer and a variety of internal stakeholders.

This role will allow you to broaden your product safety knowledge, whilst working on a variety of Royal Navy platforms and projects. You will be fully supported in your professional development, with the chance for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Product Safety will involve:

The production of pre-bid product safety and environmental assessments to inform the risks associated with the project

Development of safety and environmental arguments for complex systems (including software) sometimes from first principles, making use of logical structured argument techniques such as Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims-Argument-Evidence (CAE) techniques

Development of Hazard Logs using SMARTer

Leading appropriate safety and environmental meetings, taking minutes and acting as the customer liaison point of contact

Generating all the required safety and environmental documentation including safety plans, hazard logs, safety assessments, safety cases, environmental impact assessments and reports

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or suitable experience in a product safety role

Experience of safety system management processes and techniques

Knowledge and understanding of legislation, standards, processes and tools used in safety and environmental engineering environment

An understanding of product environmental issues

Ability to manage a team and provide leadership

Strong commitment, self-motivation and the ability to motivate other people wrt to safety and environmental aspects.

Desired:

Customer facing experience with MoD/ Royal Navy
