The Opportunity
We are looking for a highly capable, adaptable and inquisitive Software Engineer to help us develop middleware solutions for the next generation of advanced missile systems.  MBDA produce some of the most advanced missile systems in the world – we are looking for a software engineer to work with us to develop the next generation of products whilst maintaining our enviable reputation for safety, performance and dependability.
The Role
  • The role is based at our Bristol development facility.You will be developing middleware software, application support and execution environments for a range of Command and Control, Data Link and Launcher Management subsystems and product lines.
  • This is a very hands-on role – you will be developing software incorporating Operating System components (Linux based), I/O, Memory Management and Scheduling and integrating them on COTS hardware.You will be involved in the hardware bring-up phase, and it would be advantageous if you know your way around Linux Kernels, Linux OS, TCP/UDP, DDS, VME, PCI, and C & Ada Languages.
  • In addition there are a number of Application Support products that require design, development and delivery to support the team. These skills include use of C, Ada, C++, Web browser Client/Server technologies. Any or all of these will be advantageous.

What are we looking for?
  • You will ideally have a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering combined with significant experience in the development of low-level software for COTS hardware.  You will have been responsible for bringing up new hardware implementations and will be comfortable working with other engineers in a lab environment to develop new products and designs.  It is likely that your experience was gained in defence, automotive, aerospace, telecoms or consumer electronics.
  • You will favour a collaborative, open approach to development and have the ability to inspire others, and maintain momentum during development.  The software that you develop will be used across multiple products at several sites, so strong communication skills and the ability to motivate others is essential.
  • You will have some experience in model-based development, using UML and tools such as IBM Rhapsody.
  • Ideally you will have a good background in software engineering with good knowledge of Operating Systems, I/O, Memory Management and Scheduling. Knowledge of standards such as DefStan 00-55 and restricted coding standards such as MISRA C would be beneficial.
  • You will have significant previous experience with embedded C and/or C++, assembly language and ideally some Ada.  You will have knowledge of ARM and PowerPC platforms, compilers, Real Time Operating Systems and Hypervisors.
