Senior Engineering Manager - C&I

Would you like to work in a critical role ensuring the successful delivery of complex submarine programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineering Manager at our site in either Barrow-in-Furness or Bristol.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be tasked with a role that encompasses the management of the Control & Instrumentation (C&I) elements of the BAE Systems Engineering task (e.g. generation of diagrams, design descriptions, technical specifications, modelling, integration, supporting whole boat activities); as well as the delivery of related data and outputs to support the programme to quality, cost and schedule.

This role will provide you with the opportunity of gaining exposure to a range of stakeholders across the wider business, giving you the chance to build a strong network supporting your future development.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineering Manager - C&I will involve:

Delivering the functional design of the submarine C&I equipment and systems, such as, the Platform Management System (PMS), consoles, display screens, fire detection, flood alarms, control panels, as well as all platform C&I equipment supporting other power, secondary propulsion and mechanical systems; ensuring that customer requirements, and user requirements are elicited and agreed, and that systems and equipment are compliant with these requirements

Delivering the functional design specification outputs from the agile engineering capability, ensuring timely and quality delivery to support PMS development

Ensuring the C&I team scope adheres to safety, legislation, environment, and other transversal needs (inclusive of, shock, EMC, signatures, configuration management, human factors, operability, etc.)

Assessing programme and technical risks to the delivery of the agreed C&I team scope and propose mitigation activities and fall-back opportunities to the client

Assessing the programme requirements and facilitating the development and provision of the required capability resource to meet the programme demands

Developing metrics to ensure reporting of status/performance to plans and controls at programme and project level meetings

Your skills and qualifications:


Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline

Knowledge of integration of complex systems into platforms

Experience of test and trials environment including setting to work complex equipment and overall systems

Leadership experience


Knowledge of submarine C&I systems design and operation
