The Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Microelectronics Centre, based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, provides internal designers and a community of more than 650 European Universities and Research Establishments access to a world class microelectronics design infrastructure. We provide advanced technical consultancy and training across a broad range of topics, and support our customers in realising their designs using the very latest tools from the leading names in Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

About the role

We now have opportunities for Microelectronic and Nanoelectronic Integrated Circuit Design Methodology Engineers to join our team and specialise in one of the following areas:

  • analogue and mixed signal ASIC design, verification and implementation
  • high frequency (RF) CMOS IC design, analysis and implementation
  • digital IC (including SoC) design verification and implementation
  • silicon Photonics design and analysis

The role places a strong emphasis on technical knowledge, solving customer problems, providing expert advice, and communicating complex information in a clear and concise manner.  Working with various EDA packages, you will investigate new EDA tool capabilities and pilot new EDA design methodologies with the overall aim of providing our customers with expert technical assistance in the efficient use of design tools and design methodologies for their designs.  You will also develop and present advanced train-the-trainer style courses comprised of lectures, design examples and practical lab exercises to our customers in the use and correct application of these industry-standard design tools to create an effective integrated design flow.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be educated to degree level (1st class or 2:1) or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

You may have experience of a relevant design flow as a circuit designer or as an EDA design flow specialist from either an industrial or university based research environment. 

Alternatively you may have recently graduated or be about to graduate, with a relevant PhD (or equivalent) and be looking to begin a career in this area.

You will have experience using or supporting various EDA tools coupled with knowledge of microelectronics design principles and techniques.

You must also display a broad knowledge of the microelectronics or EDA industries and have a proven problem solving ability. Excellent interpersonal skills and a service oriented attitude are essential.
