The Opportunity

An exciting, high-profile position has arisen for an extremely motivated individual with considerable technical, influencing and negotiating skills to join the portfolio team and help to shape the nature of the future portfolio products.
This role gives a unique opportunity to work jointly across the MBDA directorates at a senior level (e.g. Sector Heads and CEs) to develop one of the UK portfolio product family plans, providing the right balance between financial efficiency, operational performance, exportability and freedom of action to UK MOD across the product area.
The role provides a key interface between the engineering functions, projects, future systems and Sales and Business Development to ensure that MBDA has the right strategy for the UK complex weapons portfolio and export customers.
The Role
  • Development, maintenance, and future evolution of one of the Portfolio Weapon Families and their associated plans for the UK portfolio and export customers.
  • Developing the future Portfolio Dependencies to be captured in the Weapon Family Strategy, steering MBDA’s future product portfolio.
  • Represent capability aspects of future portfolio options into MOD for consideration within Government Strategic Defence and Security Reviews (SDSR) and annual capability processes (e.g. ABC rounds).
  • Develop the cross-project product plans and decision points needed to manage the delivery of the Weapon Family in partnership with the projects.
  • Represent the Weapon Family across MBDA/MOD, and steer campaigns across senior stakeholders and the CODIR to deliver reduced cost / increased military outcomes from the Portfolio Plan.
What’s in it for you?
  • Knowledge and involvement in MOD’s procurement processes and direct involvement in the strategic decision making activities steering future UK sovereign capability.
  • A unique opportunity to gain useful skills and experience by working with MOD through all life-cycle phases from Concept Phase, through to In-service and Disposal across a range of programmes.
  • Experience working closely with a wide range of MOD stakeholders and across the MBDA business at senior levels.
  • Understand the wider MBDA business and how MBDA’s performance is judged by MOD in terms of technical, finance and commercial aspects, as well as MBDA’s own internal governance processes across functions.
  • Improve contacts, knowledge and experience towards a more senior Engineering role.
  • Exciting, variable work across a wide range of topics and programmes.
What’s great about the team?
  • The Portfolio team provides a leading role in changing the way MBDA develops and delivers our products in a joint environment with MoD, seeking to provide greater levels of capability within the UK budget, with increased UK sovereign control and better value for money than our competitors can achieve.
  • Working with a diverse and talented group of people across all disciplines of MBDA and across the customer community.
  • Great exposure to and liaison with Senior Management from across MBDA.
  • Work with a close knit team to ensure that MBDA remains able to deliver its commitments across the projects and remains as MODs first choice supplier for Complex Weapons.
What are we looking for?
  • Skilled engineer ideally with good knowledge and experience of CW technologies / sub-systems, systems thinking and the MBDA organisation / stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of complex development programmes.
  • Ideally, customer and/or supplier experience.
  • Ability to analyse complex, incomplete and inconsistent data.
  • Very good influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to interface with and influence a wide range of stakeholders in a complex multi-faceted environment including senior MOD and MBDA management.
  • Strategic thinker.
What would you get?
  • Competitive salary, flexible working, paid overtime (subject to level), a comprehensive pension scheme, employee funded voluntary private healthcare, sporting activities, fantastic site facilities, bonus schemes (subject to level) and superb learning and development opportunities.
