Are you a highly experienced manager within the field of cryogenics with a proven track record of providing technical leadership and developing cryogenic engineers? Are you an experienced project manager demonstrating both budgetary and technical control? The UK Atomic Energy Authority has an excellent opportunity for a Cryogenics & Pellets Group Leader to proactively lead and manage the Cryogenics & Pellets Group providing both tactical and strategic direction and decision making to deliver the JET and MAST-U programmes in support of corporate strategies.

Responsibilities include management and leadership of the Group to achieve Group, Unit, Department and Authority objectives; staff management, motivation and development including succession planning; preparation and management of annual budgets; development of rolling 5 year financial forecasts incorporating current and proposed future strategies for JET and MAST-U including plant refurbishments, enhancements and major upgrades; achievement of all NJOC and EPSRC milestones (both operational and project related); strategic planning for the Group for JET operational scenarios to 2025 and beyond; engendering a robust safety culture within the Group and promoting first class communications both within UKAEA and with the Eurofusion community.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience

Essential

-Degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline.

-Demonstrable experience in technical leadership and development of Cryogenic engineers and technicians.

-Experienced project manager demonstrating budget and technical control.

-Fully conversant with PSSR 2000 and PD 5500.

-Recognised within the cryogenics community.

-Experienced people manager of multidisciplinary teams.

-A thorough understanding and advocacy of corporate strategies and goals.

 

Desirable

-Membership of external bodies eg BCC, BSI

 

Special requirements:

-Close liaison with the users of the JET Facility through Eurofusion and the Task Force Leaders.

-In liaison with (Senior Authorised Person) SAP (C), SAP (P) and SAP (E) promote safe operating excellence in Cryogenics and Pressure Systems.
