Production Engineer

Main Purpose:

Provide process engineering and equipment expertise to ensure successful Manufacturing support and change management relating to new process introduction and current process optimisation.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Provide Process Engineering support for current and new products in Manufacturing
  • Be the Engineering Lead for specific processes and projects
  • Assist in Process Engineering support to IR&D
  • Generate and maintain associated manufacturing documents to support the above
  • Liaise with external suppliers for capital improvement projects
  • Ensure good housekeeping at all times to maintain a safe working environment
  • Comply with the latest EHS policies and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Develop and drive improvements to increase productivity and implement best practices
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required/instructed in order to maintain and/or improve the efficiency, quality and service of the Engineering Team
  • Continuous Improvement – you will have responsibility to make suggestions on Continuous Improvement within the business; expectations are around four a year.  This responsibility forms part all employees’ job description.


  • Ensure root cause analyses and solution implementation is carried out in a timely manner to meet Manufacturing deadlines
  • Drive productivity, cost and quality improvement
  • Support product and process development programmes
  • Identify and evaluate new equipment and processes


  • External – liaise with part suppliers and equipment manufacturers, which may require visits to the suppliers’ place of business
  • Internal – engage with all departments within API Microelectronics as necessary to carry out the duties outlined above



It is expected that applicants will be qualified to level 5, or better, of the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications.  However, applicants will be considered in light of their technical knowledge, experience and demonstrable skills where formal qualifications at level 5 or above are incomplete or absent:

  • HND or Bachelor/Masters Degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Proven experience in manufacturing process engineering
  • Practical understanding of microelectronics assembly
  • Experience in the Aerospace or similar industries

Key Competencies:

Any or all the following are desirable, but not essential:

  • Competency in:
    • Manufacturing process development and optimisation
    • Design and manufacture of jigs and fixtures
    • Programmable logic controllers
    • Technical report writing
    • Operator training
  • Familiarity with:
    • Thick film hybrid technology – screen printing, belt firing, SM pick and place, wire bonding, packaging
    • Electronic test methodologies
    • Clean room environments
    • Industry quality standards
    • High reliability microelectronics design and development
    • Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • ERP / MRP systems

Travel Requirements

The role is based within the Engineering Department at Great Yarmouth; however, some travel may be required from time to time
