We are pleased to be able to offer an exciting and challenging new opportunity to join our team at Rothamsted Research. As Facilities Deputy - Controlled Environments (CE) and Services, you will provide excellent leadership and guide the team during the implementation of a new CAFM system. 

The institute has circa 410 staff plus students and visiting academics are employed over 3 main sites: 

  • The Harpenden Campus with 330 Hectares in Hertfordshire
  • The North Wyke Farm Sites with 350 Hectares in North Devon
  • The Brooms Barn site with 77 Hectares in Suffolk.

Our estate comprises of buildings ranging from simple farm structures and offices to highly complex laboratories, specialised controlled environment rooms and glasshouses. We also look after circa 70 dwellings ranging from single rooms to houses, most owned by the Lawes Agricultural Trust, including grade 1 listed buildings. 

The Facilities department provides support to all of the estate with on-site trade streams of Electricians, Refrigeration and Mechanical supplemented by external contractors as required. This role has direct responsibility for Buildings Management Systems, refrigeration equipment, security, pest control, waste, lifts, cleaning, fire systems & warden duties.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Facilities Deputy - Buildings to deliver an efficient and cost effective facilities service to the Institute with the requirements of the research in mind at all times.  This is an exciting and challenging time as we restructure our support function and reflect on services that we provide.

You will be qualified to degree or HNC / HND level or equivalent ,with a track record that demonstrates previous experience in a multi-disciplined similar or related role.  You will have excellent project management skills gained either from a formal qualification (i.e.Prince ii) or through previous experience and have the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including the science community.
