TT Electronics is in the process of establishing an Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) on site at Nottingham University Innovation Park. The role will be part of a fast growing team at our ATC, where you’ll  be leading the way for engineering with the design and development of new value-added products and technologies for our Power Electronics division. In response to current customer demand, the ATC will initially focus on power solutions for the Aerospace and Defence market; supporting the drive towards ‘the more electric aircraft’ by developing smaller, lighter and more power efficient solutions.  

Role Overview and Responsibilities

Overview of Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this is a new role in TT’s soon-to-be-created Advanced Technology Centre. Responsible for all aspects of the design, development and testing of power converters used in a wide variety of Aerospace power converters, this role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to be part of an exciting new team, servicing top tier customers. As the ATC develops, it will grow to support the organisation globally. The ideal candidate will have the potential to grow with the ATC.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership of a small team of power converter engineers, magnetics engineers, component engineers and technicians
  • Technical ownership of all the power conversion and magnetic aspects of our aerospace power conversion products
  • Coaching and mentoring of junior power conversion staff and cross discipline mentoring
  • Review customer specifications to determine the optimal power converter topology, including full product compliance with the electrical and EMC aspects of the DO-160 environmental requirements
  • Encourage maximum re-use of standard hardware and sub-assemblies
  • Approve the electrical sections of customer proposals, taking ownership of all compliance matrix responses relating to electrical and electromagnetic compatibility in the final product
  • Lead the technical development of the magnetic components used within the power converter
  • Review simulation output reports, schematic drawings and printed wiring board GERBERS
  • Confirm drawing set is compliant with drawing standards, liaising with the configuration team as required to get a timely release of the drawing
  • Lead the design reviews of the power converter aspects of our products, including the creation of clear and concise data packs/presentations
  • Technical ownership of product integrity and performance. Approve test plans and procedures for design assurance testing and qualification testing. Review and challenge test results
  • Develop the power converter design manual through close working with the manufacturing sites
  • Lead all investigations relating to power conversion product failures. This involves collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends associated with our products
  • Protect our product and company reputation by complying with all relevant regulations and standards
  • Use our ‘lessons learnt’ database to record all product failures, test failure and customer delays; support the development of new processes and procedures to eliminate future repeat issues
  • Continued personal, professional and technical development including: attending seminars or workshops; review of trade papers and publications; frequent review and comparison of industry standards, DO-160, DO-178, DO-254 etc.; join trade associations; develop good working relationships with customers, suppliers and academics
  • Responsible for the update of the power converter skills matrix

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Required Technical Skills:

  • General Production Power Converter Design Skills
  • Strong knowledge of multiple topologies
  • Simulation Modelling Experience (Preferred; SABER)
  • Schematic Capture Experience (Preferred; Altium)
  • Development Testing Experience
  • VB/VBA Knowledge
  • Requirements Analysis
  • General Production Knowledge

Other Requirements:

  • Be able to undertake occasional travel both in the UK and Overseas
  • To develop personally and grow within the organization
  • To actively promote TT Electronics
  • UK security clearance, or capable of obtaining one
