What’s the opportunity?
 
An opportunity has arisen in a forerunning Centre of Excellence, working in a dynamic multi-disciplinary organisation to develop and deliver actuation systems. These system critical products can range from the simple to the highly complex and include the following:
  • Fin actuation systems
  • Gimbals systems
  • Reaction control systems, for example thrust vector control (TVC) systems, Divert Attitude and Control Systems (DACS)
  • Control surface deployment mechanisms
 
What will you be doing?
 
The successful candidate will be involved with both R&D programmes and major development contracts, where they will be required to represent the team at design reviews and work directly for the project leaders who are your primary customers.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for actuation servo control systems design and performance modelling, generation of control algorithms and conduction of model validation testing on hardware, therefore, this role suits an individual who is interested in the theoretical aspects of the job, has an understanding of real world effects and has knowledge gained through hardware experimentation.

Who and what we are looking for from you?
 
Typically our modern systems are electromechanical so a working knowledge of electrical machines, electrical position sensors and microprocessors would be advantageous.
  • Ideally degree qualified in relevant discipline (Engineering Council approved and post graduate MSc desirable)
  • Industrial experience with technical responsibility for the development of discrete feedback controllers
  • Experience in systems modelling including mechanical, electro-mechanical & electrical systems
  • Recent experience in Matlab/Simulink
  • Good understanding of motor design principles
  • Working knowledge of digital signal controller micro-processors
  • A solid academic and practical understanding of classical and modern control theory
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the hierarchy through presentations, verbally and via written reports
  • Ability to plan and achieve the delivery of tasks to schedule
