The Opportunity
MBDA has entered the next phase of its exciting evolution as a world class and dominant European missile company.   The growing workload within MBDA has created exciting opportunities within the Electronics Design Function for a Component Engineer to undertake a longer term period of focused development with the objective of achieving a long term career within the Component Engineering team. It is expected that it will take a significant period of time for an individual to become competent in this role which could then lead to the attainment of higher level grades within MBDA.
The Electronics Design Function is tasked with supplying a full range of design activities for our complete range of missile systems covering land, air and naval systems.

The Role
This role encompasses the development of knowledge and skills in Component Engineering to provide a Component Engineering service to the electronics designers in support of their design activities. In this role, the candidate will develop an understanding of all aspects of the selection and control of electrical and electronic components for use in our products.  This includes prospecting, cataloguing, assessment against a number of technical criteria, counterfeit detection, obsolescence management etc.
Businesses must continuously improve and MBDA is no exception.  Identification and implementation of improvement activities will be part of this role.  The activities of the role could span the international boundary and encompass our French and Italian colleagues.

What’s in it for you?
This role provides a unique opportunity to develop and broaden technically within a growing company and high capability design teams. Exposure to complex and technologically advanced projects and products provides a stimulating experience.  Working with highly talented and motivated engineers, in a friendly and supportive environment, provides one of the best environments to further career aspirations and achieve a real feeling of success.

What’s great about the team?
The Component Engineering team is a small, multi-skilled team which is part of a larger group consisting of a component engineering team and facilities in France. These two parts of the whole component engineering team are very well respected, are close, supportive and operate in a friendly environment both within the national teams and within the greater Electronics function.   There are plenty of opportunities to learn, take ownership and develop personally to the level of experience and aspirations that one may have.

What are we looking for?
High performing teams need high performing and competent individuals. To be suitable for this role, individuals will be able to demonstrate a number of the following attributes:
  • Ideally have a qualification in electrical/electronic/mechanical or a closely related subject. This role does not require higher level studies such as a degree – an ONC or equivalent would be a good starting qualification.
  • Have an interest in electrical/electronic/mechanical technologies and keep up to date in these subjects through reading and experimentation
  • Have an understanding of design processes and the design and development lifecycle
  • Willingness to undertake a 4 year+ development programme to learn the totality of the component engineering role
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills including good capability in office IT tools (ability to write VBA code would be an advantage)
  • Be pro-active, motivated and tenacious in delivering tasks on time and to cost and solving problems encountered

What would you get?
  • Competitive salaries, flexible working, paid overtime (subject to level), a comprehensive pension scheme, an employee funded voluntary private healthcare scheme, sporting activities, fantastic site facilities, bonus schemes (subject to level) and superb learning and development opportunities.
