Systems Engineer
Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of radar products? We currently have a vacancy for a Systems Engineer at our site in either Portsmouth (Hampshire), Great Baddow (Chelmsford) or Cowes, (Isle of Wight).
As a Systems Engineer, you will be working as part of the Product and Training Services (P&TS) Engineering Function that delivers all design, development, support to manufacturing and in-service support of radar products. You will be working on state-of-the-art radar products across naval and/or land based platforms.
Radar is an exciting and unique engineering field, with increasingly sophisticated electronics, materials, and signal processing, leading to remarkable advances in the cost and performance of individual and networked radar systems. This role will provide you with the chance to develop as an engineer, with the potential for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.
Your main responsibilities as a Systems Engineer will involve:
Carrying out and understanding design aspects of radar systems, to include overall radar performance prediction, design of pulse patterns, selection of various signal processing techniques, modelling and design of Moving Target Indication (MTI)/ Moving Target Detection (MTD) filter banks
Modelling and running simulations of radar performance in a variety of clutter and environmental conditions to provide coverage diagrams, Probability of Detection/ Range and plot and track accuracy data
Being able to trade off principal radar parameters in order to understand design constraints and limitations
Understanding and decomposing user requirements to sub-system levels of requirements
Articulating acceptance strategies in order to sell off requirements at all systems levels
Assessing radar system performance against requirements
Assisting in the development of high level algorithmic activity
Specifying and managing interfaces with external systems and subsystems
Liaising with a number of internal and external organisations where required
Designing, developing and demonstrating system integrations
Your skills and qualifications as a Systems Engineer:
Engineering degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Science subject
Good level of IT literacy
Experience using MATLAB/ similar tools
