Job Details

This year we are delighted to offer a wider range of graduate opportunities and programmes than ever before right across our diverse range of businesses.  Our programmes are accredited by the IET, ICE and IMechE, offering you a route to Professional Registration (Chartered or Incorporated Engineer), and a commitment to a challenging yet fully supported career with SSE.

Why join SSE?

As one of the UK's largest energy companies, we're always keen to meet great talent who can support SSE’s growth in the energy industry and commitment to the UK’s green agenda.  As the largest generator of energy through renewable sources, a market leader in the electric vehicle (EV) evolution and a responsible employer with a key commitment to keeping the lights on; we can offer you the opportunity to make a real difference for our customers and the communities in which we operate.

What will I do on the programmes?

You will play a key role from day one in helping the business maximise value from our operating assets, and ensuring we achieve our ambitious capital investment plans. You'll spend time developing your skills across different business areas and will take individual responsibility for real results at each stage. This will involve some travel to sites throughout the UK and Ireland to gain practical exposure to certain business areas therefore a full UK driving licence would be an advantage.

Due to our size and diversity, we can offer you a structured yet challenging development programme where you'll have the support of the Learning and Development Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor to assist you in reaching your full potential.  The programme will support your career development into a permanent role with SSE that reflects your experience and passion.

What do I need to join?

For this programme, you'll ideally have an MEng or minimum of a 2:2 BEng in an electrical, mechanical, civil, materials or project engineering discipline. Consideration will also be given to students with a STEM qualification for some roles.

We’d love you to have practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for engineering, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team.  You’ll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.

You should have an interest in the energy industry and show alignment with SSE's core values. We also ask that you have a flexible approach to work locations and be genuinely committed to developing a career with us – as we are with you.

If you want to work in an environment passionate about safety, innovation, teamwork and excellence in everything we do, you'll be proud to be part of the SSE family. For us it's not just about being good at what you do - it's about enjoying what you do, too so we'll encourage and empower you to be imaginative, share your great ideas, and do work that you can be proud of.

On top of a competitive salary, you'll enjoy generous holiday entitlement with options to purchase additional leave, a Group Pension Plan, share options and extra discounts.
