Job Details

SSE is excited to launch a new graduate programme within our Enterprise Telecoms business, based in either Reading or Havant.  This 2-year programme would suit a graduate with a keen interest in technology and willingness to learn about our exciting sector.

After successful completion of the programme, and should there be a suitable vacancy, there is the intention to offer a permanent position in one of the placement areas. However, should an individual excel in a particular area, and a position become available during the course of the placements, there is the possibility that the programme can be cut short to allow the individual to pursue the role immediately.

Why join SSE?

As one of the UK's largest energy companies, we're always keen to meet great talent who can support SSE’s growth in the power, telecommunication and utilities industries and commitment to the UK’s digital and power agendas.  As the largest generator of energy through renewable sources, a market leader in the electric vehicle (EV) evolution and a leading telecoms network provider we can offer you the opportunity to make a real difference for our customers and the communities in which we operate.

What will I do on the programme?

You will enjoy up to 2 years of intensive training and development where you will receive exposure to a combination of the following business areas: - Product Engineering, Managed Services, Operations, Provisioning, Commercial, Pre-Sales and Commercial Infrastructure.  You'll spend time developing your skills within these areas and will take individual responsibility for real results at each stage. This may involve some travel to sites throughout the UK to gain practical exposure to different business areas.

Due to our size and diversity, we can offer you a structured yet challenging development programme where you'll have the support of the Learning and Development Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor to assist you in reaching your full potential.  The programme will support your career development into a permanent role with SSE that reflects your experience and passion.

What do I need to join?

In this role, you’ll ideally have a minimum of a 2:2 level degree in a IT, Technology or Telecommunications-related subject, along with related work or project experience.  Consideration will also be given to students with other STEM qualifications, however we would love you to have some knowledge of:-

  • Networking (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Optical). Cisco exposure desirable
  • Servers and Virtualisation (MS Hyper-V, VMware ESX)
  • Programming / Scripting
  • MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Visio)

You will have previous experience of working in a team environment and will be used to setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.

We also ask that you have a flexible approach to work locations and are genuinely committed to developing a career with us – as we are with you.
