Job Details

With the decision made to focus on the in-house development of lifeboat electrical and electronic systems within the RNLI, now is an exciting time to join our team of electrical and electronic engineers.

As a Senior Engineer you will be a subject matter expert in the installation, setup and fault diagnosis of marine radar, marine communication systems, navigation instruments and electronic chart systems. To be successful, you will need to be confident in using your in-depth knowledge of the subject to support coastal staff and lifeboat crew, both reactively when escalated technical issues arise and proactively to deliver technical training so that issues can be addressed at source.

We’ll look to you to ensure maximum reliability and performance of our electronic systems through life in the challenging environment of small vessels manufactured from composite materials, in particular with ensuring EMC issues are addressed.

As you will assist with the support and development of the SIMS computer systems fitted across all the RNLI lifeboat classes, you’ll ideally have experience of the design and support of computer-based networked control systems running both Microsoft and Linux based operating systems, as well as experience with programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems and embedded systems.

You will be able to balance the demands of producing designs for ease of manufacture in a lean manufacturing environment, whilst also ensuring that through life support and cost are minimised.

Experience in component level electronics and PCB design including microcontrollers is desirable, as is experience in producing drawings using a 2D CAD system and a working knowledge of the design and installation of low voltage electrical systems.

Closing date: 21 October 2018.

Interview dates: 29/30 October 2018.

Company

Whatever the weather, our equipment and lifeboat crew need to operate to the very highest possible technical standards. It’ll be up to you to ensure this.
