The Opportunity
A vacancy has arisen in the Sparkworks area of the business for a scientist or engineer to work in Bristol on the technology and systems aspects of Radio Frequency Directed Energy systems and in related areas.
 
The Role
  • Working on a range of practical and theoretical studies relating to the early concept definition of new systems incorporating a range of novel technologies, including pulsed power, high power RF / microwaves and stealth
  • Leading or contributing to the development of demonstrator prototypes under customer or PV funding
  • Assisting in the evaluation of demonstrators through off-site trials at home and overseas and carrying out supporting RF simulation work
  • Undertaking systems studies, trade studies and requirements management in novel technology areas
  • Supporting in the certification of novel products and trials activities.

    What are we looking for?
    We seek an experienced scientist or engineer with the following essential attributes:
  • Creativity, imagination and the ability to innovate
  • Demonstrable knowledge of basic principles of electricity and electromagnetism
  • Record of successful technical work delivered individually and/or as part of a team
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and often from a blank sheet of paper
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, backed by working knowledge of Office software
  • Candidates must be willing to undertake the DV (Developed Vetting) clearance process once working at MBDA
     
    A candidate who additionally possesses several of the following attributes would be particularly suited to the role:
  • Ideally holding a higher degree (e.g. Masters or PhD) in a physical sciences or engineering discipline
  • Strong hands-on practical / laboratory skills (ideally with a bias towards RF and/or electrical work)
  • Familiarity with well-known computer simulation codes (such as PSPICE, Matlab, CST MWS, COMSOL)
  • Familiarity with analysis of large datasets
  • Experience of systems requirements capture and management
