The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to lead the UK element of the Battle Modelling team. This team provides software tools and analytical studies for a diverse range of activities across the business, including Future Systems, Export Campaigns and VIP visits. You will be responsible for the development, use and international sharing of a wide range of real time and non-real time simulation software tools for  missiles, sensors, and platforms including the FOX operator-in-the-loop air combat simulator.
 
The Role
 Leading a small functional UK team  in a fast changing international environment, including people management, task delivery and management of a simulation lab
  • Work in close liaison with the French part of the team and provide regular reporting to the Head of Battle Modelling (Fr)
  • Directing the development and maintenance of a wide range of battle modelling software tools (in C, C++, Matlab, Visual Basic, Open GL), including real-time operator–in-the-loop air combat simulation with 3D graphics.
  • Delivery of analytical studies and experimentation using the battle modelling toolset – includingair-air combat tactical studies and missile performance investigation & comparisons
  • Liaison with internal customers to develop opportunities
  • Hosting Customer and VIP visits, and providing support to export campaigns

As the UK lead for Battle Modelling within Future Systems you will be working in a dynamic, forward looking and international environment, supporting studies for the MBDA’s systems of tomorrow
  • The team has a wide range of internal customers, which provides a high level view of the business and lots of variety in all domains: Air to Air, Air Defence, Surface Attack, Strike, Battlefield. Tasks are relatively short duration and we often have to respond at short notice.
What are we looking for
  • Ability to lead teams, work as part of a team, liaise with others at all levels throughout the company, and build effective relationships with customers
  • Willingness to build and sustain capability in a specialist team
  • Management of tasks placed on the team and associated resource and facility management in a dynamic environment
  • Able to present complex issues and conclusions in a simple, convincing way that can be readily understood by customers and stakeholders at all levels
  • In-depth understanding of business drivers and non-technical issues within a given project area(s), and the ability to factor this in to analysis and conclusions
  • Appreciation of knowledge management principles
  • Understanding of export control and IT security processes
 
Technical
  • In-depth understanding and practical experience of a range of modelling and simulation techniques and how they can best be applied, with the following highly desirable:
  • Familiar with PC development environment
  • Practical experience of software lifecycle management processes
  • Experience of real time, non-real-time and constructive simulations
  • Experience of networked/distributed applications
  • Experience in C, C++, Fortran, Visual Basic, MATLAB, Open GL
  • Basic understanding of physical principles associated with weapon systems and missiles
