We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at our site in Barrow in Furness.
As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be working within the manufacturing engineering business unit to lead, co-ordinate and execute a range of manufacturing engineering tasks, continuous improvement activities and packages of work.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to grow and shape the Manufacturing Engineering business unit from its infant state whilst supporting a multi programme delivery in a complex, discrete and low volume manufacturing.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer will involve:
Transferring the engineering design intent into executable packages of work, seeking to enrich the manufacturing process
Applying working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
Evaluating and suggesting recommendations on the manufacturing quality control processes, types of manufacturing methods to be adopted, list of processes to be followed and tooling required
Generating new processes and procedures to enable end users to manufacture in accordance to design intent in a safe and controlled manner
Spending time on research of the tools, methodologies and processes and finding out solutions to improve production efficiency
Scheduling work and identifying materials required in line with the Programmes and liaising with stakeholders to ensure their requirements are met, making decisions on Programme recovery if needed
Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer:
Manufacturing Engineering principles and/or lean manufacturing principles
Complex discrete manufacturing experience
Developing innovative and effective solutions
Relevant manufacturing engineering disciplines and methodologies
Proven decision making experience
Must be able to manage own work load and prioritise work efficiently
Maintaining alignment with longer term strategic business objectives
Evidence of developing optimal manufacturing work flows and packages using manufacturing engineering disciplines, exploiting and leveraging business systems
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline and / or significant experience of working in a manufacturing engineering discipline
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
Lean manufacturing principles
Seven Basic Quality Tools
CAD, PLM, ERP (SAP), MES system solution awareness
Engineering background / experience preferable

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
