Principal Mission Systems Engineer - Warship Technical Authority

We have an exciting opportunity in Portsmouth Naval Base for a Principal Mission Systems Engineer. This role provides governance and oversight of Engineering decisions that affect QEC Mission System equipment, system and infrastructure design.

The successful candidate will undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, as part of the Mission Systems Warship Technical Authority and QEC Engineering team and supporting other functions, and/or to organise and co-ordinate aspects of engineering activity ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.

You will be responsible for contributing to the provision of systems engineering capability and design across a broad set of challenges to meet the needs of the QEC COM internal projects and the wider QEC Strategic Class Authority and other customer programmes.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

Ensure the integrity of the QEC Mission System and wider platform design is maintained as it transitions fully into the service environment.

Manage the efficient, timely and safe implementation of design change into QNLZ and PWLS post VAD, including update and upgrade activities.

Contribute to the maintenance of configuration control of the QEC Mission System design.

Provide authoritative evidence to demonstrate that design intent has been achieved and ensure that a design change has been holistically integrated.

Ensures that the QEC Safety Case has integrity, is comprehensive, coherent and consistent.

Collect and collates evidence for Naval Authority Certification submissions;

Identify and propose opportunities for improvement of QEC Mission System platform design;

Be the primary Warship Technical Authority Point of Contact for all QEC Mission System related engineering design queries.

Ensure compliance with SHE Management System, mitigating risks and improving overall SHE performance.

Line management responsibility for a small team of chartered engineers.

Your skills and qualifications:

Be a member of a relevant professional body and registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), or be able to demonstrate that they have been working at the level of a Chartered Engineer for some period of time.

Engineering Design and/or Engineering Management within Mission/Combat Systems environment involved with the QEC programme.

Defence and or Maritime experience.

Knowledge of engineering and project design lifecycle.

Be qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline preferably with experience in the marine/naval industry.

Ability to interact at with Partners & Supplier organisations;
