The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen in a team of specialised EO professionals.  The team is looking to recruit a talented and creative individual to actively contribute to the development of next generation EO/IR seeker and sensor solutions.  The role will be focused on developing novel computational imaging systems that will enable new form, fit and functionality to be applied to seeker and sensor designs in response to the emerging product portfolio. 
 
The Role
  • The successful applicant will work as part of a Project Team within a dynamic environment, requiring strong interpersonal skills to engage across a multi-function and multi-culture organization.
  • The role will require a detailed understanding of computational imaging systems, enabling the successful applicant to contribute to both the optical and algorithmic seeker design elements. 
  • In addition to these primary role objectives, a number of other activities and responsibilities will be expected, including;
  • Monitoring supplier and technology roadmaps and identifying cutting edge and future technologies for investment
  • Providing technical expertise in design reviews and other forums
  • Supporting the growth and improvement of existing and future test facilities

  • The team undertakes fundamental technology development through to concepts and sub-system development, as well as working on a range of activities from theoretical modelling through to lab and field based testing
  • You will experience this broad and varied work content, which is dynamically changing to meet the Company’s evolving needs
  • Some travel is involved between MBDA sites, supplier and customer locations, and test sites.
What are we looking for?
Essential
  • The position is for a full-time role
  • You will be qualified to higher degree-level, or equivalent experience, and ideally have a PhD (or similar experience) in: optical engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics or a related field, as well as previous experience in developing imaging hardware prototypes. 
  • You will also have, ideally, 5years or more experience with scientific programming languages and tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW, Zemax, C/C++
  • Ability to motivate yourself to achieve demanding and evolving tasks while maintaining a calm professional manner
  • A keen and enthusiastic interest in technologies for future development and producing innovative solutions
  • Detailed understanding of modelling techniques and their limitations.
  • Experience of technical management of subcontractors
  • Experience with good engineering practices, such as requirements definition, design certification & validation, and configuration control
  • Flexible, “can do” attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved
  • You will be able to take responsibility for your own contribution, control your own timescale and be responsible for your own budget
 
Desirable
  • Understanding of EO radiation, propagation and detection principles
  • Practical EO system design experience using such tools as ZEMAX, Code V, MODTRAN
  • Experience in 3D design tools (CAD)
  • Appreciation of system design & integration challenges
  • Experience with configuration and requirements management tools such as TeamCenter PDM and DOORS
