Computer Hardware Engineer
Do you possess the ability to install and maintain Hardware? We currently have a vacancy for a Computer Hardware Engineer at our site in Broad Oak, Portsmouth.
As a Computer Hardware Engineer, you will support and maintain the hardware for MCTS (Maritime Composite Training System) at Broad Oak and provide support for spares and repairs reported by the MCTS site maintainers. In addition, you will provide hardware support to the Sub-Surface Training Systems projects at Broad Oak.
This role will provide you with the long-term opportunity with the scope for progression. You will be involved with lots of exciting projects within Naval and Submarine based work and whilst using state of the art equipment.
Your main responsibilities as a Computer Hardware Engineer will involve:
Providing support to MCTS Service Delivery, investigating hardware issues and providing solutions, where required, to maintain system availability.
Managing the hardware spares to support MCTS Service Delivery and Reference Kit at Broad Oak and forecasting of spares levels and provision of spares including the identification of any concerning trends.
Managing the project's electrical waste in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
Supporting the Systems and Software teams where required with hardware issues found during project development.
Maintaining the configuration control of the project hardware items at Broad Oak within the Hardware Configuration Management tool.
Undertaking the Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) of the project Reference Kit hardware at Broad Oak.
Undertaking the creation of installation, modification and commissioning procedures relating to newly installed project hardware.
Routine and corrective maintenance of the project Reference Kit hardware at Broad Oak to support the project development teams.
Installing and modifying Hardware items at Broad Oak and at site as required.
Liaising with the Ministry of Defence Site Coordinating Installation Design Authority (SCIDA) to ensure that installations and modifications at site comply with their governance.
Your skills and qualifications as a Computer Hardware Engineer:
Ability to install and maintain hardware, including networks in a large complex multi-site facility.
Generation oftest and installation documentation.
Ability to investigate and resolve hardware issues.
Experience with the installation of hardware equipment against a specification.
Fault diagnosis and repairs knowledge.
Must understand how to carry out own job and how this fits into the work of the project Service Delivery and Engineering teams.
Knowledge and experience with COTS hardware. This includes cabinets, cabinet design, wiring schedules and awareness of power distribution.
Full knowledge of hardware systems development lifecycle.
Server and network storage box knowledge.
Experience with Dell machines or Viglen equipment

Salary: £26,000 +
