Linux SME/Team Leader

Are you a Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME) wanting to provide technical leadership to a small but growing team of engineers? Are you passionate about using innovative technology? We currently have a vacancy for a Linux SME based at our Christchurch site.

As a Linux SME you will be focussed on the delivery of Linux capability to support a number of projects. The team that you will lead is currently in the process of conducting a technical refresh of our Linux estate, comprising both RHEL and custom Linux, in order to support the next generation of our secure solutions. This technical refresh comes at an exciting time in the delivery of our projects, covering an upgrade to RHEL 7 as well as the implementation of test automation.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to deliver innovative technology solutions, as well as lead a team of engineers and inspire them to be the best that they can be.

Your main responsibilities as a Linux SME will involve:

Providing technical leadership

Developing packages of work

Leading design and development activity

Implementing automated testing of development output

Managing the technical activity required to maintain the security accreditation of our delivered solutions

This role is based in our Christchurch office but occasional travel to customer sites in the south of England will be required.

Your skills and qualifications as a Linux SME:

- Linux system administration

- Containerisation

- Automation

- Orchestration

- Networking

- Configuration management

- Security hardening

Ideally you have an honours degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant STEM subject, although relevant knowledge and experience may offset the qualification requirements. You will be required to obtain full Security Clearance.

What we're looking for in you:

Due to the nature of the systems that we deliver, unconventional application of technology is often required, so this role is well-suited to a creative thinker with a willingness to quickly learn new technologies. Crucially, we are looking for somebody who has strong experience as the focal point for a team, providing the technical leadership that is required to help us meet our delivery objectives.

Ideally you have an honours degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant STEM subject, although relevant knowledge and experience may offset the qualification requirements. You will be required to obtain full Security Clearance.

Location: Christchurch, Dorset

Salary: Up to £50,000

Benefits: Our employees receive an excellent benefits package which includes a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. We also offer a range of additional benefits such as flexible working, an employee assistance programme, Cycle2work and many local and national employee discounts. Some employees may also be eligible for an annual incentive.
