Principal Systems Engineer- VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of radar products? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer at our site in either Portsmouth (Hampshire), Great Baddow (Chelmsford) or Cowes, (Isle of Wight).

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be working as part of the Product and Training Services (P&TS) Engineering Function that delivers all design, development, support to manufacturing and in-service support of radar products. You will be working on state-of-the-art radar products across naval and/or land based platforms.

Radar is an exciting and unique engineering field, with increasingly sophisticated electronics, materials, and signal processing, leading to remarkable advances in the cost and performance of individual and networked radar systems. This role will provide you with the chance to develop as an engineer, with the potential for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer will involve:

Leading and carrying out design aspects of radar systems, to include overall radar performance prediction, design of waveforms, selection of various signal processing techniques, modelling, clutter cancellation techniques, radar management and estimate of radar loss

Modelling radar performance including resource management, target flight kinematics and environmental considerations/impacts

Being able to trade off principal radar parameters in order to understand design constraints and limitations

Understanding and decomposing user requirements to sub-system levels of requirements

Developing integration, test, evaluation and acceptance plans and agreeing these with the customer; as well as providing the technical leadership during the realisation of these plans

Assessing radar system performance against requirements

Evaluating radar performance

Specifying and managing interfaces with external systems and subsystems

Underwriting and estimating bids, within authorised value levels, to ensure that they capture all requirements, customer obligations and acceptance criteria, achievable solutions with acceptable levels of technical risk and conformance with company and product policies and standards

Supporting the development of individuals and teams to enhance skills and competencies, such that technical capability is maintained

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Systems Engineer:

Essential:

Engineering Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Science subject

Systems engineering experience

Desirable:

Experience of advanced signal processing techniques

Experience of working with radar (or similar system) design
