Engineer Manager Product Assurance

Would you like to work within an interesting and challenging role influencing the development of whole boat systems across a number of submarine platforms?

We currently have three vacancies for an Engineer Manager Product Assurance (Systems) Engineer Manager Product Assurance (Mechanical) and Engineer Manager Product Assurance (Electrical) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As an Engineer Manager Product Assurance, you will be playing a key role in the development and integration of Mechanical and Electrical including C&I and Whole boat systems, equipment operation, performance and safety, including Combat systems, Survival systems, Board Domestic systems and Platform systems onto the Astute and Dreadnought Class submarines for the Royal Navy. You will be frequently liaising with other teams to overcome engineering challenges and ensure the overall governance of the Whole boat systems.

This role will offer you a variety of different activities where every day is different. You will have the opportunity to specialise within a critical submarine system domain, with the chance to gain exposure to a number of internal and external stakeholders. Your main responsibilities as an Engineer Manager Product Assurance will involve:

Taking responsibility for the Product Assurance of the Whole boat systems including Mechanical and Electrical including C&I systems and Whole boat systems, equipment operation, performance and safety, including Combat systems, Survival systems, Board Domestic systems and Platform systems, whilst understanding the required performance, safety and security requirements for these systems

Providing independent assurance evidence through the review, surveillance and audit of the Mechanical and Electrical including C&I systems and Whole boat systems, equipment operation, performance and safety, including Combat systems, Survival systems, Board Domestic systems and Platform systems through the complete engineering lifecycle

Providing technical assurance advice to the Engineering Product Assurance Engineering Management on the aforementioned systems and equipment

Providing technical assurance advice when looking at design modifications of the systems

Attending meetings on a regular basis at various site locations.

Liaising with the transversal teams to ensure the successful integration of survival systems onto submarine platforms

Making engineering suggestions, considerations and compromises, whilst ensuring the correct evidence has been provided to continue with, or discount, suggestions

Reviewing designs and documentation

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Demonstrable knowledge of a domain specialisation applied to maritime platforms or within comparable safety critical industries

Honours Degree in STEM related discipline or equivalent qualification or experience

Desirable:

Operational knowledge of at least one of the marine domain specialisations

Understanding of the engineering lifecycle

You must possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical engineering knowledge to a variety of stakeholders. You must also have the ability to influence others, whilst putting forward clear, concise and credible reasoning to support engineering decisions.
