Engineering Capability Manager - Underwater Weapons

Would you like to play a pivotal role in supporting and shaping engineering capability within our Maritime Services business? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Capability Manager - Underwater Weapons at our site in Broad Oak, Portsmouth.

As an Engineering Capability Manager - Underwater Weapons, you will be reporting directly to the Head of Sector and also to the Head of Engineering. You will be working closely with the Engineering function to continually improve the engineering capability and lead the assignment of engineers to support the breadth of business winning activities and project delivery objectives. You will also support the functional planning activities for capability retention and improvements.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with senior leadership in the support of sector strategy planning and the creation of business cases, whilst developing product road maps for new products, product upgrades and underpinning technology requirements. This role is an excellent platform for future career opportunities such as the potential to transition into a more senior delivery role or Head of Engineering.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Capability Manager - Underwater Weapons will involve:

Representing the Engineering function within the sector and being the engineering management focal point across all sector projects, campaigns and bids

Ensuring appropriate and effective application of the engineering policies, the engineering life cycle and their manifestation in Design Reviews and Technical Bid Reviews for all projects across the sector

Supporting the achievement of all sector and business objectives, exceeding the Integrated Business Plan (IBP) and implementing the Strategic Improvement Framework

Working with Project Engineering Managers (PEMs) within sector to manage day-to-day resource assignment within the sector and with other Business Group Engineering Managers (BGEMs) across sectors

Management of sector facilities; putting in place and delivering investment plans across those facilities and ensuring that safe systems of work are in place, whilst overseeing the management of the work carried out using them

Developing business cases for investment to ensure technology advancement and insertion is realised in line with the overall Technology Plan

Undertaking Design Review Chair, Engineering Cost Review Chair and/or Technical Bid Review Chair where delegated by the Engineering Authority

Working with the Engineering Capability BGEM and Discipline Leads to put in place and deliver functional plans for the development of scientific, engineering and technological skills and capability (people, processes, tools and infrastructure) within the sector to support ongoing growth in line with both near and long term IBP objectives

Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Capability Manager - Underwater Weapons:

Essential:

Proven track record in engineering capability management

Knowledge and experience of how an engineering function integrates to provide and produce a product that is fit for purpose

Broad awareness of the commercial environment and a basic understanding of the competition with the maritime sector

Desirable:

Experience in the bid and campaign phase of a programme
