Raytheon UK is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join a successful Power Products team within the Global Sensors Mission Area.

The role will be based at Raytheon’s Glenrothes, Harlow or Manchester facility and the successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager.

The Systems Engineer will be architecting and managing the product design models and simulations across a range of Power Products, through the analysis of requirements and concepts, working closely with the Principal Hardware Engineer and Principal Firmware Engineer to implement the proposed power solution by the supporting software and hardware resources.

Above all, this is the ideal opportunity for a self-starting senior engineer who wants to work on exciting technology and product development projects in a collaborative environment.

The role:
This role includes:

  • Power Product design and development – From the initial concept stage, architecting the concept model, developing and implementation of modelling and simulation solutions through the development cycle for verification.
  • Creation of high fidelity simulations and models of Power Product designs, performance assessment and hardware test support.
  • Is responsible for the development and implementation of modelling solutions.
  • Collaboratively working with the Principal Hardware Engineer and Principal Firmware Engineer to perform simulation and modelling activities.
  • Support a model based design process for digital control design and development.
  • Support the verification and validation of the Power Product for certification.
  • Liaison with academia partners and industry experts for various work packages.

Candidate Requirements
Essential Skills:

  • Experience in systems engineering and product integration through modelling and simulations.
  • Experience in the validation of modelling and simulations via hardware testing.
  • Proven mathematical modelling expertise, preferably using Matlab toolsets.
  • Experience in the interpretation of customer specs and end use environments.
  • Has demonstrable knowledge of the full development lifecycle, from concept to customer delivery.
  • Be able to elicit and articulate the requirement and demonstrate that it is addressed by the solution proposed and implemented by supporting software and hardware engineering resources.
  • Good knowledge of high power, electro-mechanical and / or thermal product design within harsh environments.
  • Fully understand control operation, debug, diagnose and implement fixes between the product model and hardware testing.
  • Ability to develop control concepts efficiently from limited or vague customer requirements and communicate potential solutions.
  • Good problem solving skills, willing to take ownership as well as positively contributing within cross-functional teams.
  • Good communication skills. Ability to tailor communications to level and audience at all levels.
  • The ability to define and manage tasks both within the team and with subcontracted task leads or with participating team members. This requires well developed organisational and management skills alongside technical skills which facilitate cooperative working.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience using the Mentor Graphics tool suit; DxDesigner, Constraints Editor, HyperLynx tools such as Signal Integrity & Power Analyser, SystemVision simulation or equivalents would be advantageous.
  • Design of Invertor and Power Factor Correction power supplies and exposure to other topologies.
  • Define and participate in the execution of integration test and regulatory compliance testing of the solution.
  • Designed to meet and follow processes such as RTCA D0-254 or similar.
  • Design of circuits in analogue, power and digital.
  • Experience of working with Industry standard toolsets (e.g. DOORs).
