Job Details

Got a taste for food manufacturing? Looking for variety and real responsibility?

Join our Engineering graduate scheme which offers two very different placements within the engineering function.

We may have been around for 167 years, but we’re not hanging around in the past!

We are a sixth generation family business, with a portfolio of five food companies: Abel & Cole, our bakery Jacksons, Wellocks, MyFresh and The Food Doctor. Great people and great food are at the heart of what we do, and we’re exceptionally proud of our heritage and values. Yet we understand that the development of talented people is critical for our continued success in an ever-changing industry. Our graduates are a valued part of our Group, and for the first time we are now extending our existing schemes to welcome an engineering graduate to join us.

Hands-on food manufacturing experience is at the heart of our engineering graduate scheme

Our challenging two-year scheme is a busy mix of work placements, project assignments and development training. You’ll be following a structured programme, working in two of our businesses across our group, which will give you all kinds of experience, including growing your engineering compliance knowledge, industrial services, manufacturing operations, problem solving, engineering projects and maintenance knowledge.

We take your learning and development seriously

Over the course of the scheme, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the what is at the heart of our engineering functions, we will support your continuing professional development and support you in gaining your chartered engineering status,  and that’s just for starters! We’ll also set you up with a two-year training plan, which includes a variety of additional externally accredited courses, as well as personal development training designed to build management skills.

We’d love for you to apply

If you are a recent graduate (2016 onwards), or are in your final year of study, ideally from a discipline relating to engineering. Industry experience is desirable, but it’s more important that you can demonstrate a real passion for the food industry, and follow the latest food manufacturing news.

We’re looking for engineering managers in the making

Strong organisational and communication skills are a must. You’ll also need good analytical and problem solving skills, as you’ll be identifying areas for improvement and proposing solutions. The role requires flexibility, as your placements will be in two of our different businesses, which are located across the country.

So what’s in it for me?

-Roles with responsibility, and opportunities for ownership in the work you do.

-Exposure to our senior leadership teams, both through project work, and in your day to day role.

-Full financial support to gain professional qualifications.

-Regular mentoring meetings with a senior manager from one of our businesses.

-A support network of current graduates. Between them they have a variety of experiences in businesses and roles (and they’re a sociable bunch, too!).

Think you’ve got what it takes? We would love to hear from you:

Follow the link below, and you’ll be asked to submit your CV and answer a few questions so that we can get to know you a little better. The deadline is 6th March 2019, though don’t delay as we may close applications before then! We will be interviewing in March with the final selection event taking place in mid-April.

Company

From a small grocer shop in Yorkshire in 1851, William Jackson Food Group is now a sixth-generation family business. Over the years, so much has changed and evolved. From what we sell and do to the ways we do it. But there’s one thing that remains unchanged. Our values and ethos have, and will always, remain the same.

We're family-owned with family values at our core. We look after our businesses and our people, inside and out, and we act with integrity in everything we do - there are no sharp practices here! We respect people and appreciate their role in our success. We’re in this together – for the long term – and we believe in winning the right way.

Our purpose is to have a range of terrific food businesses, each of which creates some of the greatest food in its field in a way which makes life better for our people, planet and communities, and in turn makes us proud.

Our Chairman is Nicholas Oughtred and it was his great, great, grandfather William Jackson, who founded our business back in 1851.

William was clearly an old romantic as he married in the morning and opened our first shop, a grocer and tea dealer in Hull, in the afternoon. Since then the business has been through many stages which have shaped the way we think and behave today. We’re a sixth-generation family business and have a rich history, but don’t make the mistake of thinking we’re stuck in the past - there’s lots more that we can achieve and we need even more bright people in our businesses on the journey.
