The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently preparing itself to perform the most exciting challenge of the next few decades. We are now seeking applicants to join this unique opportunity of contributing towards producing carbon-free energy using nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion reproduces the atomic reactions which occur inside stars and aims to use the resulting release of energy to generate electricity.

The Active Gas Handling System (AGHS) of the Joint European Torus (JET) is the facility which delivers, collects and processes hydrogen isotopes, including tritium, the key fuel of the fusion reaction.

As part of the Tritium Process Group, you will be:

-Responsible for the operation, maintenance and upgrade of at least one of the AGHS subsystems,

-Part of a shift team operating the AGHS plant,

-Part of the design team of the Hydrogen-3 Advanced Technology (H3AT) new facility.

To deliver these stimulating missions, the Tritium Process Group is seeking colleagues able to expand our technical capabilities. We are particularly keen to hear from graduates of the following subjects:

-Physics

-Chemistry

-Engineering (mechanical, material, chemical/process, nuclear)

Please note we welcome applications across 2 levels and have attached application packs for both, the level is determined by skills and experience against the criteria within the job descriptions.

The LEVEL 4 role attracts a salary range of £32,993 to £37,069 (including MPP), dependent on experience plus industry leading benefits including an outstanding pension scheme.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built.
