Help us protect London. Create the latest crime-fighting tech.

Technology is playing a bigger role than ever in helping to make London a safer city. Through ground-breaking projects, we’re creating solutions to fight crime and take the Met into the future. As a Development Manager, you’ll be at the very forefront of this exciting work, influencing design solutions and taking part in the entire development lifecycle.

Our Technology, Research & Innovation division is leading advancements in emerging technologies in areas such as communications and secure systems. In this fascinating role, you’ll be part of the Electronic Systems Development team, where you’ll help to develop niche solutions. As well as carrying out hands-on development work, you’ll lead a team of electronics and mechanical engineers. It will be up to you to mentor team members so they meet production deadlines and perform at their very best. You’ll also manage the full lifecycle of electronic design, taking projects from concept, to manufacture, production and implementation, and through to operational deployment. You’ll then manage third line support alongside colleagues and officers.

A degree (or equivalent) in Electronic or Electrical Engineering is essential. However, we’ll also accept an HNC/HND if you have outstanding practical experience in a similar setting. Whatever your background, you must have developed tech solutions before. We’ll be looking for experience in at least some of the following fields:

  • General electronics design
  • Delivering electronics systems into a robust operational environment
  • Embedded systems including hardware and software
  • FPGA-based systems
  • Audio and Communication systems
  • RF design and modulation methods
  • IP systems and their design and configuration
  • PSU and battery technologies
  • Schematic capture and PCB design.

Company

London covers 620 square miles and is home to millions of people speaking over 300 different languages. In this most vibrant and complex of cities, this presents an ever-evolving challenge for the Met when fighting to reduce crime - and the fear of crime.

Forging close relationships, building trust and understanding the issues within London’s different communities all form part of the fundamental platform on which effective, credible policing is built.

As a result, we must continue to recruit the brightest and the best people from every background and use the full spectrum of their skills, knowledge and experience to make London safer for everybody.
