Job Title: Technical Officer – Electronics

Salary: £31,070 to £36,893, plus £2,930 London Location Allowance. You will receive £31,070 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £36,893 will be via incremental progression.

Charge the fight against crime.

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to use your engineering skills in the direct fight against crime. However, we’re looking for someone to join the Met Operations 3 Covert Policing command to develop and deliver the technological solutions our officers need. Not only will you help fight crime, but your ideas will also be heard, and directly influence design solutions.

This work is hands-on to say the least. Following the full lifecycle, you’ll design, prototype, manufacture, assemble and test your electronic creations. You might even participate in some operational or field work, providing third-line support to solve complex technical problems. Alternatively, you could collaborate with operational officers to fight crime. A typical day will see you involved in software and hardware projects, assisting and participating in their development. As well, you’ll join meetings, design workshops, and manage customers and suppliers.

To join, you’ll need a HNC/HND or ONC/OND in electronic or electrical engineering (or equivalent practical experience). However, we’re not only looking for your qualifications – we also want your creativity. That way, you’ll approach intricate issues from different perspectives to solve them quickly and effectively. Beyond that, you’ll know how to transform these new ideas into practical and tangible electronic solutions for our police force. This role involves a combination of independent and collaborative work. So you’ll need to perform well individually and as part of a team - whether in the laboratory or out in the field.
