Electrical and Computer Engineering - Texas A&M University at Qatar

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar invites applications for two positions: Assistant Professor in computer engineering and Assistant Professor in power electrical engineering at our campus in Doha, Qatar (www.qatar.tamu.eduu). Full consideration will be given to applications received by March 1, 2019, applications received after that date may be considered until the positions are filled. The appointments are anticipated to begin in September 1, 2019.

Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) is a partnership with Qatar Foundation. Established in 2003, TAMUQ offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering and a Master Program in Chemical Engineering. The degree programs are identical to those of the main campus at College Station, Texas. A Texas A&M University diploma is awarded to graduates.

Doha is the home of Education City (https://www.qf.org.qa/qf-entities/qf-entities), a dedicated campus devoted to research and education. In addition to TAMUQ, Education City campus hosts other academic institutions including Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northwestern University, University College London, and Georgetown University. As an international institution of higher learning, TAMUQ, and its partners in Education City, have significantly contributed to the development of post-secondary education and cultural growth in Qatar.

Program Overview Texas A&M Qatar attracts some of the best high school graduates in the region. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Program (http://ecen.qatar.tamu.edu/) is ABET accredited, has 12 faculty members with supporting administrative and research staff, and has approximately 30 graduate and 130 undergraduate students within the Program. Faculty members have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The program benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation in support of its key educational and research missions. The faculty have established strong educational and research programs on a foundation of core engineering disciplines. The program continues to be refreshed in terms of its curriculum and research to meet local and global needs.  There is significant support in Qatar for research through funds from Qatar National Research Fund and Industry. The Program follows the Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas program and the Diploma are valued as such.  

Salary and Benefits:

TAMUQ offers a competitive salary package commensurate with rank and experience. The package includes overseas salary premium, accommodations, annual home leave allowances, dependent education, local transportation allowance, medical insurance, and other benefits.

Required Education and Experience

The two positions’ applications are open to candidates holding PhD in computer engineering for the computer engineering position with focus on computer engineering topics, and to candidates holding PhD in electrical engineering for the power electrical engineering position with focus on power electrical engineering topics. The responsibilities of the computer position are to teach computer and electrical engineering courses and for power electrical engineering position to are to teach power and other electrical engineering courses, to conduct research, and to perform service activities as needed. Preferred minimum qualifications include: experience with TAMU, TAMUQ or TAMUS system, PhD from a reputable institution, teaching experience and research background. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, and research outcome. This position is in Doha and the successful candidate must relocate to Qatar.
