Deputy Technical Authority

Would you like to play a key role in defining the technical solution and supporting the development of a variety of Combat System equipment for the Type 26 platform? We currently have a vacancy for a Deputy Technical Authority operating across our Shared Infrastructure, Combat Management System and Gunfire/EO product areas. The role will operate at one of our southern Combat System sites (New Malden, Broad Oak or Frimley).

As a Deputy Technical Authority, you will be undertaking the management of a broad range of technical areas including hardware, software, systems and networking and demonstrate a strong background in development projects.

As well as great technical knowledge, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to draw individuals together from all different areas within the business, so strong stakeholder engagement skills is a must. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently with little direction within a complex business and provide strong technical guidance while liaising with individuals at all levels.

In return, this role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to be involved in some of the most complex engineering projects in the UK, including the opportunity to work on a significant Naval project within BAE Systems.

Your main responsibilities as a Deputy Technical Authority will involve:

Support and prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.

Carry out complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.

Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.

Act as a point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.

Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids.

Support Product Design Certification activities including Product Safety & Environmental matters.

Support integration planning and investigations (factory and LBIF) such that CS integration activities can proceed efficiently and to schedule.

Your skills and qualifications as a Deputy Technical Authority

  • Ability to operate in a large, complex multi-project environment
  • Possesses good knowledge in a number of the following areas:
  • General Combat Systems experience
  • System Design
  • Requirements Analysis
  • Previous exposure to: Requirements and Acceptance process, Interface Management, Human Factors, System Performance, Networking, Software Development and virtualisation, COTS Hardware, server and blade technology.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for Product Safety & Environmental matters as captured in the appropriate Project Plans
  • Knowledge of the Design Certification process
