Engineering Manager

Would you like a new challenge of making an impact on some of the biggest projects in the UK defence market right now? We currently have a vacancy for Engineering Manager at our site in New Malden.

As an Engineering Manager, you will provide engineering and management expertise to the delivery of Submarine Command System ('SMCS') projects/programmes. With activities spanning the full cycle from initial concept & bid through D&M and into in-service support & disposal the role provides opportunity to develop a wide range of programme management skills.

In addition, this role will provide you with a high level of exposure within the Maritime Business Unit, is heavily Customer focused and provides a significant level of autonomy given the self-contained nature of the SMCS engineering team.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:

Working with the IPT Lead and project Design Authority to deliver all aspects of engineering deliverables

Delivery of engineering effort to budget and schedule including work package allocation & tracking utilising EVM techniques.

Supporting the relevant governance processes for engineering and project management aspects of the projects.

Responsibility for providing leadership and direction in solving technical issues

Responsibility for ensuring continued professional development of the engineering staff deployed on the project.

Leading estimation of engineering activities for cost-to-complete exercises and when bidding for additional work

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

A proven track record of successful engineering programme delivery covering the entire lifecycle

Knowledge of Engineering Project Management techniques (EV,CPI,SPI, Risk etc)

Proven Stakeholder Management with Strong Communication Skills

Ability to lead and deliver Projects whilst managing budgets, Resource, Training and Development of the team

Solid understanding of LCM & the Engineering Lifecycle

Desirable:

Knowledge of the Naval domain particularly with regard to the Submarine flotilla

You must be resilient with good people management skills and be able to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent communication skills are key to this role.

Combat Systems

We design, develop, integrate and provide through-life support to naval combat systems that enable navies to protect nations.
