An exciting opportunity exists for an exceptional engineering manager to lead a large, multi-disciplined group engaged at the forefront of technological application at Diamond.

Diamond is the national synchrotron facility serving the UK and international academic and industrial scientific communities and its pioneering capabilities are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.

Diamond accelerates electrons to produce extremely bright X-rays for use by scientists in 33 independent experimental stations. These beamlines are made up of optical elements and sample environments that employ sub-micron, multi-axis, precision motion systems operating in Ultra High Vacuum environments and often at cryogenic temperatures. Add to that all the technologies including magnets and RF involved in accelerating and focusing the electrons through three different accelerators, and you can begin to imagine the enormous breadth of this role.

You will join Diamond at an exciting time as we embark on a major upgrade of the facility, which will replace the current electron storage ring with an even more brilliant light source at a higher energy as well as install new, and upgrade existing, beamlines.

To help maintain our status as a world-class facility, we require a dedicated technical professional with a proven track record in leading a substantial multi-disciplined engineering group to lead and develop a group of more than 80 staff engaged in the design, specification, procurement and construction of technical systems employed across the accelerators and beamlines.
